Clare Ison

Clare started her dental nurse training with Hughes & Owen in November 1988 and is enjoying being back in the practice since February 2022.

She has continued to pursue her career for which she has a passion for and gained additional qualifications to become a qualified Dental Nurse in 1994 followed by gaining national post qualifications in Dental radiography, Oral Health Education, Fluoride Application and dental impression taking.

Clare also had a short career break to work in retail management and gaining extra qualifications in Business Studies, plus a Diploma in interior design.

Clare has been the Practice Manager since 2022 and has continued to grow the practice whilst making sure the service and care we offer our patients is always excellent, plus keeping up with current compliance updates and developing the team.

Dr Clare Louise Watson

Clare qualified at Sheffield Dental School in 1997 and has worked at Hughes & Owen Dental Care in Swadlincote since then. She has always enjoyed all aspects of general dentistry, especially the care of nervous patients.

Within the local community at schools and pre schools, for the last 16 years Clare has provided oral health education including activities to engage with the children and promote oral health. Clare also plays a key role in the training and mentoring of dental nurses within our practice.

Outside of work Clare enjoys doing Pilates and yoga and is also a keen runner and has completed two half marathons for prostate UK. She also enjoys going on walks with her husband Mark, 3 children and 3 dogs.

Dr Jonathan Mark Hanshaw

Jon qualified in Leeds in 2001 and completed his vocational training in York. In 2005 he completed the certificate in restorative dentistry at the Eastman Dental Institute in London and enjoys all aspects of general dentistry. Jon joined Hughes & Owen Dental Care in April 2009 and is based at the Swadlincote practice. Outside of dentistry he enjoys watching football and playing badminton.

Dr Eleanor May Mardon

Eleanor qualified from Leeds Dental Institute in 2004. Since then, she has worked in both NHS and private practices in Leeds before returning to the Midlands in 2012. She has an interest in prosthetic dentistry and the care of anxious patients. When she is not at work, she enjoys gardening and cooking, as well as running around after her three children.

Dr Baldish Singh Nandra

Bal qualified from Guys, Kings and St. Thomas’ Dental School at the University of London in 2008. Following this he went on to gain further experience working in hospital dentistry for a number of years in consultant led departments. Specifically, at King’s College Dental Institute, London, in Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Special Care and Sedation, Paediatrics and Restorative Dentistry and at Bristol in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

This gives him a broad range of knowledge and experience to deal with more advanced restorative procedures which he manages in private practice in Birmingham. Specifically, Bal has a special interest in Endodontics, having completed an MSc in Endodontics (Masters degree in root canal treatments) and accepts referrals for all types of cases in this field in a number of practices across the midlands.

Bal passed exams to gain Membership of the Joint Dental Faculties of the Royal College of Surgeons, London in 2010 and Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh in 2011. As well as being a member of the British Endodontic Society, he is also a member of the Society for the Advancement of Anaesthesia in Dentistry (SAAD) and has considerable experience in treating anxious and nervous patients priding himself on patients saying he has a gentle touch and calm demeanour.

Bal is extremely passionate about providing comfortable, high quality treatment and care to his patients. His focus is on further education and is dedicating his clinical time to patient care in the field of endodontics.

Dr Edel Latham

Edel joined the team on November 3rd 2022.

Edel graduated from University College Cork in 2008. She has worked in general practice since qualifying, enjoying five years in Edinburgh followed by six years in London before settling in Staffordshire in 2019. She enjoys the ever-evolving nature of general dentistry and the variety that it brings.

Outside of work Edel enjoys yoga, reading and regular trips to catch up with friends and family in Ireland.

Dr Vivien Gion

Vivien qualified as a dentist in 2015 and has gained valuable experience in both NHS and private practice settings. In June 2023 she became a member of the Hughes and Owen team in Swadlincote. Vivien is passionate about all aspects of dentistry with a special interest in restorative and aesthetic procedures. When she is not at work, she loves spending time with her family, travelling and staying active.

Dr Nabeel Hussain

I am a caring and compassionate dentist who aims to provide the best care to my patients. I have a particular interest in fixed/removable prosthetics.

Outside of work I regularly play football, swim and enjoy travelling.

Dr Thomas Wilmsen

Thomas is a qualified implant surgeon. He graduated in dentistry from the technical university RWTH Aachen in Germany and has also undertaken a postgraduate degree: Master in Science - MSc in Oral Implantology.

I have worked at Hughes and Owen for 10 years. I have been in dentistry since 2005 starting as a trainee dental nurse, then in 2013 qualifying in hygiene and therapy from Kings College Hospital. I love being part of a team at Swadlincote and treating patients holistically, I especially love oral hygiene and educating patient on how to maintain good oral health. Outside of work I love yoga, walking, cooking and spending time with my family.

Gemma Bennett

6 years I've been at Hughes and Owen now; however, I've been in dentistry 20 years. I first qualified as a dental nurse then further qualified in Dental Hygiene and Therapy. In doing this I gained experience in treating adults, children and very nervous patients. I am extremely passionate about promoting good oral health with my patients. I’m also very keen to share tips and advice to ensure good oral hygiene is achieved for all. In my spare time, I enjoy going on holidays with my family and pets.

Shelby Leedham

I started working for Hughes and Owen in 2022 as a receptionist. I was attracted to the comforting feel of private dental care and the amazing personal benefits received when visiting a small family like practice.

My passions include Special Needs Awareness and Dogs.

I have been in dentistry for 35 years, and worked as a dental nurse and a Treatment Coordinator.

I particularly like the treatment coordinator role; I enjoy discussing treatment plans with patients and answering their questions. I'm also qualified in radiography, impression taking, fluoride application and scanning. I have a real passion for the job. In my spare time, I like to craft, spend time with my family and weekends away exploring.

Karen Anslow

Karen started work in dentistry in 1991 as a trainee dental nurse and went on to gain the NEBDN National certificate in 2002. She then went on to attain the NEBDN qualification in Radiography in 2008.

Karen enjoys working alongside the dentist helping to put patients at ease, especially nervous patients and young children.

In her free time Karen enjoys spending time with her family, walking and visiting new places.

Kirsty Mclnerney

The best part of being a dental nurse is having people leave with a smile on their face. I enjoy going to the gym and travelling with my dog and family.

I started working full time in April 2022 as a receptionist and I have been really enjoying it ever since. We are like a little family here; I mostly enjoy getting to know patients personally whilst providing them with professional quality care. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my son and daughter and my 2 grandsons.
